As creation declares God's glory I paint to capture that beauty in nature and to express the emotion of the scenes that so captivate me, places of light and color, of the grandeur of treescapes and mountains, and the mystery of waters. Plein Air painting is a joy and great challenge to me and often the way I begin my work, painting a study from life then a larger or more refined painting in the studio based on my plein air observations. Having grown up on the moss-lined, dark, and reflective waters of south Louisiana I'm often drawn to the subtle color shifts, shadows, and reflections of water.
The act of facing a blank canvas and creating an image that the viewer's eye can wander through thrills me as I continue along this art journey, always reaching for the visual expression of the beauty, the emotion, and the experience of a place.
I work in water-mixable oils and paint primarily landscapes and also still lifes, and figures.
I began a creative career in Interior Design after graduating from Virginia Commonwealth University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. Art studios while in school focused my attention on perspective, design, and light and shadow which awakened an interest in fine art. As my family became more independent I eagerly pusued the dream of painting in oils. I’ve studied with nationally recognized artists such as David Leffel, Quang Ho, Carolyn Anderson, and Gregg Kreutz.
